"Ordinary Day"
by Great Big Sea
I've got a smile on my face, I've got four walls around me
The sun in the sky, the water surrounds me
I'll win now but sometimes I'll lose
I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad
[Chorus:]
And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
and it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say,
it's all right.
Janie sings on the corner, what keeps her from dying?
Let them say what they want, she won't stop trying
She might stumble, if they push her 'round
She might fall, but she'll never lie down
[Chorus]
In this beautiful life, but there's always some sorrow
It's a double-edged knife, but there's always tomorrow
It's up to you now if you sink or swim,
Keep the faith and your ship will come in.
It's not so bad
And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say
I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say
it's alright
'Cause it's alright, it's alright
'Cause I've got a smile on my face and I've got four walls around me
The sun in the sky, the water surrounds me
I'll win now but sometimes I'll lose
I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad
[Chorus:]
And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
and it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say,
it's all right.
Janie sings on the corner, what keeps her from dying?
Let them say what they want, she won't stop trying
She might stumble, if they push her 'round

ReplyDeleteI think the song is about having a bit of trouble but still being happy
WHY do you think that? :)
DeleteElaina's response
DeleteI think this because in the song it said "Sometimes I lose, I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad."

Delete@ian I think song was made to not give up and to overcome problems because the text says what keeps her from dying and i think it could be that shes no going to give up.

Gwyneth's Comment:
ReplyDeleteI think the theme of the song is that there is always tomorrow and never be sad. And also is to live life to the fullest and to tell you there are dangers out there in the world but you can still have a good day, since it says in the song "but sometimes I'll lose I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad"

DeleteYes, live each day to the fullest! Choose happiness!
DeleteI think that the message of the song is to stay positive or to always try your best. I think this because in the song it says: I’ve got a smile on my face and the song says she won’t stop trying.

Ria's responce,
ReplyDeleteI think the song is trying to tell us to stay positive and stand up for yourself and other people. Why? Well the lyrics, (chorus) says everythings alright. The third paragraph says how Janie was being pushed a bullied but she still stayed strong and never gave up
I like your response it has a lot of detail.

I agree with you!!

I think it's great how you were specific about the information that supported your answer.

ReplyDeleteI think that the song is about just a normal day the singer is just talking about what happens during the normal day. For example it says Janie sings on the corner, what keeps her from dying? Let them say what they want , she won`t stop trying.
@Isaac i think its to be happy because in the lyrics says "i will win but sometimes i will lose." after that hes not depressed and says " thats not bad at all."
ReplyDelete@ ian i agree with you.

Nathan's response- I think that the message in this song is to enjoy and cherish life, and to be happy with our planet and what we've gotten out of life. I think this because in the the second chorus it says in the beggining," In this beautiful life, but there's always some sorrow..." I think it also means to keep your head up on a bad day.
ReplyDeletethat's an amazing post!!!

Charlie's response
ReplyDeleteThat every day cannot be the best day. It says that you just have to take it as an ok day. That means you let the bad things out and let the good things in. This is what I think the lesson is.
Jack: i for one think that the song means that just because its an ordinary day does not mean that it is not a good day i know this because in the song it says ' its a ordinary day but its all right'
ReplyDeleteYou did not capitalize the I, you put a apostrophe instead of a quotation mark.
DeleteAubrey's response- I think the message in this song is that even if you have a bad day, there's always something to be glad about. I think this because in in almost all the paragraph it says something that may not be happy or nice but at the end of almost every paragraph, it says that there's always something tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteInteresting.......

Daniel's Response:
ReplyDeleteI think the song is trying to tell us that we should always be happy because it says she's got a smile on her face. I understand that, but it dosen't make any sense at all because we all get emotional sometimes (Now that I think about it, I wish I could read girl's minds. Sheesh!) .
Sorry girls!!!
Hehehe, that'd make life a lot easier if we could read one another's minds!
DeleteJennifer, I love the song and music i think is good because music is just the best and awesome that why i think this music is good. September 23,2015

ReplyDeleteI think the main idea of the song is to try to have a good day no matter what. I think this because the song says “I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day”
No matter what. :) Love this idea!
DeleteNicks response: I think that the song is about some people in a boat because in the song they say, "the water surrounds me " and he is not swimming because he said,
ReplyDelete"I got four walls around me. he is also happy because he sings, " 'cause I've got a smile on my face." That's what I think the song is about
Nandita's response: In the song Ordinary Day, I think that the message that the song is sending is that even though some days do not turn out very good, at the end of the day you could look at all the things you have and say "It's alright,''.
ReplyDeleteOne reason why I think that is the message that the song is because in part of the song they say" At the end of the day, you've just got to say, it's alright.''
Another reason why I think that this is the message of the song is because at another part it said "I've been battered, But I'll never bruise, it's not so bad".
Wow! Very detailed.

Quinn #24
In the chorus
“And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
and it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say,
it's all right.”
This makes me think that this song is about having an open mind.
“I've got a smile on my face, I've got four walls around me
The sun in the sky, the water surrounds me
I'll win now but sometimes I'll lose
I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad”
It is also about being optimistic.
This is what I think this song means.
Quinn says: Nice job Quinn!
DeleteMrs. Woodard says: Quinn, that's a rather silly comment. ;)

ReplyDeleteIn the song ‘’Ordinary day’’ by Great Big Sea, I think the message/main idea is to never give up and keep trying. When it says ’’Let them say what they want, she won’t stop trying.’’ I think it means that she will never give up even if people say that she can’t do it.
Also it means every day is an amazing adventure and you can learn new things. Even if there is something sad, get the chance to make it better.
@lucas I think that this is about that there is always something posotive about
ReplyDeleteordanary day. I think this because in the song they said I'll win now but sometimes
I'll lose I've been batterd, I'll never bruise, its not so bad.
I love how you said, there's always something positive about an ordinary day. Even those days that feel bad, there's still a little something good to be found in them. :)
DeleteAubrey's response- I think the message in this song is that even if you have a bad day, there's always something to be glad about. ReplyDeletedavid reaspones : I think the main idea of this song is don't give or keep trying I think this because in the song it said "lat them say what they want, she won't stop trying.

Deletedo you mabye think it might be stay happy?
Gavan’s Response:
ReplyDeleteI think this song is about that you may get bullied or you may have gotten in trouble and that it is not the best day but life still goes on and that tomorrow you can possibly fix what you have done. I think this because in the song it said if they push her she might fall down but in the song she is still happy because it’s not like it’s the end of her life.
Gwyneth's Response: Wow that week when I heard that song i was surprised, that is had a different tune then I expeted.
